Seattle’s live music scene is preparing for a major expansion as plans move forward for a brand-new 5,500-capacity concert venue in the heart of SoDo. Backed by Live Nation and First Avenue Entertainment, the venue is expected to become one of the city’s premier destinations for concerts and large-scale events when it opens in 2029.
The new venue will be built at The Boxyard, directly across from T-Mobile Park and within walking distance of Lumen Field. Developers say the project is designed to bridge the gap between Seattle’s smaller clubs and larger arena venues, giving mid-level touring artists a modern space built specifically for live performances.
According to project announcements, the venue will feature advanced production technology, flexible stage configurations, and upgraded artist amenities aimed at attracting national touring acts. The space is also expected to contribute to the growing entertainment district developing throughout SoDo, an area already home to venues like Showbox SoDo and WAMU Theater.
Seattle music fans have reacted with excitement online, with many saying the city has long needed a dedicated mid-sized concert venue. Others have raised concerns about Live Nation’s continued expansion within the live entertainment industry, sparking conversations about competition and the future of independent venues in Seattle.
Despite the debate, the announcement signals continued investment in Seattle’s music culture and nightlife economy. With concerts, sports, bars, and nightlife all concentrated in the SoDo corridor, the new venue could help transform the district into one of the Pacific Northwest’s biggest entertainment hubs.
Construction timelines are still developing, but the venue is currently projected to open in 2029.
